We were north of Victoria, BC about 40 kilometers. Took the ferry 9:30 arrived at 11 am from Port Angeles to Victoria, made it to our Airbnb. Left at 5 am and went to Lake Shawnigan. Started fishing at daylight with top water. First fish was 5 minutes in and caught small mouth 3 ½ lbs. and then we caught 5 more on top water using the mega bass I jack and wopper plopper. As the sun came up we switched to twin tail hula grub on football head jigs. Fishing 10-15 feet on rock piles. Bite got hot and heavy and we ran out of all of our hula grubs. No bass gear on the entire island. Take enough fishing tackle to last you. Fished for three days, repeated the same sequences and caught 20 every day. No bonus. Switched to Elk Lake, heard it had good reports out of there. Fished hard and long and got one hook up on top water and the one that got away is always the biggest. This one was the big one. Fish jumped and got caught in the vegetation. It was 7-8 lbs. plus. Stay tuned for our Port Townsend salmon report.
